I think it would have been better had the gig been at Rock City, but that's just never going to happen any time soon, and even if it did, could you imagine trying to get tickets? Seeing them play at Glastonbury is slightly different, I think, as the crowd is very different and the atmosphere is very different to your common or garden arena.

I've a bunch of arena gigs coming up, and although they're hardly ideal, it's often the only chance you get to see some bands.

I'm wondering (like Del) about whether or not to get down to Wembley to watch them play with Girls Aloud next September.swisslethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16708248700851998044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1750120863647373520.post-38135335749135368322008-12-05T10:41:00.000+00:002008-12-05T10:41:00.000+00:00One possible answer (in my experience) - the small...One possible answer (in my experience) - the smaller the venue the more enthusiastic the crowd.

I'm not sure that bands are better in smaller venues per se, but I do think that the crowds in little venues tend to be more hardcore, emotionally-engaged and keen, which makes the atmosphere a bit more involving.

Arena gigs are more likely to draw the "who's playing next year? Coldplay? Perhaps we should go - I quite like them" brigade (who are of course as welcome as anyone). If they played my front room we'd have 25 people there all *desperate* to be there, and as such it would affect the atmosphere a bit, innit.

That's my theory, anyway.LBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06234702470107953581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1750120863647373520.post-52783511483735931542008-12-05T05:08:00.000+00:002008-12-05T05:08:00.000+00:00Is he? And I think it's a symptom of both a band getting huge, and playing such enormous venues.

I saw the Foos at Wembley over the summer, and as good as they were, I felt uncomfortable about the whole thing. I think it's partly cos i am a self confessed snob. But also that I think rock n roll is supposed to be outsider music. And when you suddenly realise that a band appeal to that many people, it cheapens the music somewhat, in a way that you don't feel when it's just you listening on headphones alone.

My mate wants to go and see Coldplay with Girls Aloud at Wembley next year. It sounds nice enough, but what's he trying to say? What does "Ignite your bones" mean, exactly? It's pretty much meaningless sentiment done in the style of "The Scientist" only not quite as well (and I've never been a massive fan of that either).

Have I mentioned that I'm in the "Fix You" video?swisslethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16708248700851998044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1750120863647373520.post-37559742107556291222008-12-04T09:12:00.000+00:002008-12-04T09:12:00.000+00:00"Fix You" is for when your life is a wre..."Fix You" is for when your life is a wreck so I'm glad it never resonated for you. I never saw them in concert, but saw them on Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago and he messed up the chord change in "Yellow" in an obvious manner. Quickly ended the song and just yelled "Obama" into the mic.

Oasis live never bowled me over live, but Radiohead slays me, no matter the setting.
