people are fragile things....

It is exactly fifty years since the Munich air disaster, when an aeroplane containing a Manchester United squad returning from a European tie in Belgrade crashed after failing to lift off from a snowy runway at the third attempt.

Twenty-three people in all died, including 8 members of the famous Manchester Utd team known as the "Busby Babes".

Whether you are a Manchester United fan, a football fan or simply a decent human being, we can surely all agree that this was an awful tragedy and that it is well worth spending a quiet moment remembering those who died today.

LB has written a lovely heartfelt piece on the tragedy here, and I strongly encourage you to have a look.
