and in my best behaviour, I am really just like him....

Saddam Hussein is executed.

"Thou shalt give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.” Exodus 21: 23-27

The killing in Iraq continues.

"An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth and the whole world would soon be blind and toothless." Mahatma Gandhi.

  1. Ah, it's good to see our mission to bring peace and democracy to Iraq has been such a stunning success.

Those stupid liberals who predicted disaster... Ha! What do they know?

  2. I do have to say that I won't miss him

  3. Well put, Swiss. It's not that I am going to miss him, but I don't think it's any sort of "victory" either.

After the hanging, Bush cautioned that Saddam's death wasn't going to be the end of violence in Iraq. No shit, Sherlock. Probably, the only person who had to be told that was him.

  4. I agree with you, Jenni. I just read that Bush went to bed rather than wait for confirmation of the execution. When asked why, one of his spokesmen said that "he knew it was going to happen."

    Mission Accomplished, eh?

  5. I'm oddly going to miss the bearded Saddam... since the evil mustachioed one had been gone since the war started.

  6. I've been away from computers and news sources and only just realised this has happened.

The execution rather handily gets rid of the man who could best explain just how far US and British backing for Saddam went. No time to ask: "let's have a few more details of where you got the weapons from" or "remind us who was supporting you when you gassed the kurds" now.

Destroying the Evidence, they used to call that.

No, he was not a nice man. But he was the last US-backed leader of Iraq. Nice precedent, innit?
