land of confusion....

For a little while now, several of my colleagues at work have been asking me if I am going to be setting up some kind of a blog so that they can keep tabs on where we are during my time away. I really enjoyed it when one of my closest colleagues sent me really detailed emails about her travelling around South America a few years back, so I suppose I can understand where they are coming from. If you can't travel yourself, then there's a certain amount of pleasure to be had by reading about a friend's adventures.

The thing is, of course, that I already do have a blog where I'm going to be journalling our travels as often as I can.... it's just that I don't really want to share this address with 99% of my colleagues.

What to do....what to do.....

In an attempt to confuse myself thoroughly and to make my own life as difficult as possible, I have set up another blog using one of my other google identities, and I'll give me colleagues and assorted other friends and family that address, so that I can keep this address clear. Don't worry about missing anything, though......... all that's going to go on that blog is a slightly sanitised version of what I put on here. I'm too lazy to do anything much but cut and paste, but it's a clean sheet with no possibly incriminating archives to rummage through.

You're still my favourites.

Of course, managing two different google accounts is already proving to be a nightmare, as logging into one means I have to completely log out of the other. I've already managed to leave several comments around the place with the "wrong" ID, and I'm sure before too long I'll have slipped up to the extent that I might as well have just kept one address and let everyone have that.

Another one to add to the list of problems that didn't exist 5 years ago, eh?

I'm also being badgered to set up a twitter account too, as some people think that might be fun to read little 140 character updates of my travels. Multiple blogs is one thing, but multiple twitter accounts? Really?

Good grief. This is proving complicated.

  1. Maybe post a few things from a different computer, say in an internet cafe, to avoid getting confused with identities.

    Have fun travelling :]

  2. If you're using your own computer in your travels (laptop, of course), use two different browsers for the two accounts. Use your default browser for this account, and then download Firefox or Opera or Safari and use it for the other one.

As for a second twitter account, it's easy enough to manage multiple ones in pretty much every twitter client out there. Tweetie and TweetDeck for the iPhone both allow multiple accounts, and make it easy to tell the difference between the two of them.

  3. I have two blogs (well, three, but one's just book reviews) and two Twitter accounts. Yes, some people know about and follow both, but overall, having a "clean" (or in my case, professional) presence has worked nicely. And then you can have the fun of tweeting to yourself!
